The Aldor are a priestly order of Draenei, the original inhabitants of the upper city of Shattrath. They nurse a strong enmity the Scryers, but both these rival factions work together to aid the Sha'tar.
Choosing the Aldor
Reputation with the Aldor and the Scryers is mutually exclusive: that is, as your faction with one side goes up, it goes down with the other. Though the game does not force you to choose one side or the other, you will eventually want to do so (not least because Aldor and Scryer reputation also grants additional Sha'tar faction bonuses).
To ally yourself with the Aldor, approach Khadgar AHTW in the centre of Shattrath, and select his Allegiance to the Aldor AHT quest. This choice is not irrevocable, but it is very difficult to reverse, so choose wisely.
Is choosing the Aldor a good idea? That depends on your character's class, role and professions, along with a few other considerations. It's always a good idea to check the items available before you make the choice, but in the broadest possible terms, the Aldor provide resources better suited to PvE than PvP. That's a generalisation, though: more specifically, these types of characters will benefit from building reputation with the Aldor:
Roles
- Healers (except those who use staves)
- Ranged DPS (for magic-users the advantage is slight - consider other factors, too)
Classes
- Druids (especially Feral, or those who focus on Moonkin form)
- Hunters
- Rogues who use swords (but dagger Rogues are better served by the Scryers)
- Warriors who rely on DPS (but not tanks)
Professions
- Armour crafters (with a focus on Fire Resistance)
- Jewelcrafters (with a focus on Shadow Resistance)
If you've already joined the Scryers, and want to switch to the Aldor, you can change your mind. Seek out Sha'nir AHT in the northern part of the Lower City, and do her repeatable hand-in quest, Strained Supplies AHT. She wants Dreadfang Venom Sacs AHT - lots and lots of Dreadfang Venom Sacs - to build up her flagging anti-venom supplies. Go out and cull the spiders along the eastern edge of the Bone Wastes for these, and eventually your Aldor reputation will rise to Neutral, allowing you to switch over. The longer you leave it to switch, the harder it will be.
Gaining Reputation
You will find numerous Aldor quests throughout Outland which will gain you reputation. You can always tell when a quest is Aldor related, because it will give you a warning in the quest text that gaining Aldor reputation will damage your standing with the Scryers.
Many of the hand-in quests below allow you to collect and deliver the items well before the faction level listed. It is strongly recommended that you save those items until later levels (for example, if you drop a Fel Armament AHT while still Friendly, it's a much better idea to bank it until you're Revered - unless you need Holy Dust AHTW before then - see below).
Note that every point of faction gained through Aldor hand-ins is also worth half a point of Sha'tar reputation.
Neutral to Honored
Collect Marks of Kil'jaeden AHT and deliver them to Adyen the Lightwarden AHTW. These marks drop from lower-level members of the Burning Legion W, especially those north of Auchindoun AW, and from Kil'sorrow Fortress W in Nagrand.
Honored to Revered
Collect Marks of Sargeras AHTW and deliver them to Adyen instead (he will no longer collect Marks of Kil'jaeden after you reach Honored). These marks drop from higher-level Burning Legion forces, especially those found in Blade's Edge Mountains, Netherstorm, and Shadowmoon Valley.
Revered to Exalted
High Priestess Ishanah AHT, the leader of the Aldor, will accept donations of Fel Armaments at any time. These items grant you the greatest boost in Aldor faction, and therefore most useful once you pass the Revered stage. Turning in a Fel Armament will grant you some Holy Dust AHTW, and Holy Dust is exchanged for Aldor should enchants: if you need an enchant like this before you reach Revered, you'll need to hand in some Fel Armaments early.
