Faction Guide

Scryers

The Scryers are a faction of Blood Elves who abandoned their leader Kael'thas W to serve the naaru instead. In principle, they co-operate with the Aldor to serve the Sha'tar, but in practice their is a deep hatred between the two basic factions of Shattrath City.

Choosing the Scryers

In game terms, the hostility of the Aldor and Scryers means that, as you gain faction with one, you lose it with the other. In principle it is possible to remain Neutral with both, but each side offers its own significant advantages, and you'll eventually want to join forces with either the Scryers or the Aldor.

If you choose to ally with the Scryers, seek out Khadgar AHTW in the centre of the Terrace of Light in Shattrath, and choose the quest Allegiance to the Scryers AHT. Even after you've made this choice, you can change your mind and switch to the Aldor, but it that's hard to do, so consider your choice carefully.

The advantages of each group over the other are quite complex: in the most general terms, the Scryers tend to be more useful to PvP players than PvE, but considerations of class, profession and playing style will all affect your final decision. Players in these categories will have the most to gain from the Scryers:

Roles

  • Healers, but only those with a preference for staves
  • Tanks

Classes

  • Rogues who use daggers (but sword Rogues are better served by the Aldor)

Professions

  • Armour crafters (with a focus on Arcane Resistance)
  • Jewelcrafters (with a focus on Nature Resistance)
  • Alchemists (only the Scryers provide any alchemy recipes)

If you've already sided with the Aldor, it's still possible to cross over to the Scryers. There is a hand-in quest provided by Arcanist Adyria AHT in the Lower City HTW, requiring multiple hand-ins of Dampscale Basilisk Eyes AHT. This will get you back to a Neutral status with the Scryers, allowing you to switch. It's important to realize that the more reputation you gain while you're with the Aldor, the harder it will be to switch sides, so if you want to change your mind, do it sooner rather than later.

Gaining Reputation

There are Scryer quest givers throughout Outland. Particularly notable are a quest chain that starts in the inn at Area 52 in Netherstorm, and a whole collection of Scryer quests based at the Sanctum of the Stars W in Shadowmoon Valley.

The Scryers are keen to see an end to their former allies among the Blood Elves: the Firewing and the Sunfury who still serve Kael'thas. Collecting signets from these Blood Elves will gain you Scryer reputation. The Scryers also value Arcane Tomes, which will not only boost your faction status, but also earn you an Arcane Rune AHTW, which you can use to purchase 'inscriptions' (that is, enchants of various types).

Unless you really need Arcane Runes, it is best to hold onto the various hand-in items until you reach an optimum level of reputation, as listed below. It's also worth knowing that all these hand-ins boost Sha'tar reputation, by 50% of the faction gained with the Scryers themselves.

Neutral to Honored

Collect Firewing Signets AHT and hand them to Magistrix Fyalenn AHTW on the Scryer's Tier of Shattrath. These rings drop from the Blood Elves of Firewing Point W in eastern Terokkar.

Honored to Revered

Collect Sunfury Signets AHT and take them to Fyalenn in place of the Firewing rings (she will no longer be interested in Firewing Signets after you reach Honored status). Sunfury Blood Elves can be found around the manaforges of Netherstorm, and also in various parts of Shadowmoon Valley.

Revered to Exalted

Voren'thal the Seer AHT is the leader of the Scryers, and his thirst for knowledge means that he will be grateful to accept any Arcane Tomes AHT you discover in Outland. You'll find him, naturally enough, in the library on the Scryer's Tier. You can hand in Arcane Tomes at any time, but saving them until you reach Revered will make the most of their boost in faction. You may wish to hand some in earlier, though, if you particularly want to purchase an inscription with the Arcane Runes Voren'thal provides as a reward.
