The Arcatraz

The Arcatraz is the third wing of the Tempest Keep, which lies in the east of Netherstorm. To open the door to this wing, you will need a Key to the Arcatraz ^AHT. Only one key is needed per party, and in fact a rogue can lockpick their way into the instance if necessary. Tempest Keep can only be reached by players with a flying mount.

Working for the Consortium

Before you can get close to the Arcatraz key, you'll first need to perform a series of tasks for the Consortium.

• Start at Area 52 in southwest Netherstorm. There, you'll find a Consortium representative named Nether-Stalker Khay'ji ^AHTW, who'll give you an assassination mission: Warp-Raider Nesaad ^AHT.
• There follows a long series of quests that will take you back and forth across most of Netherstorm. All of these are quite soloable (you can see a full list here ^HT) until you get to the end of the chain, which is Full Triangle ^AHT. That will take you to the heart of the Ruins of Farahlon to kill a fairly tough 70 Elite demon named Culuthas ^AHT. Though he is reportedly soloable, you'll find life much easier with a group.
• The Nexus-Prince is so impressed with your work that he entrusts you with a new mission, Special Delivery to Shattrath City ^AHT, which involves transporting the Ata'mal Crystal ^AHT you recovered from Culuthas on to Shattrath. You can go back to Shattrath the long way, or you can just step through the Nexus-Prince's teleporter ring to be transported there instantly. (Sometimes, it really does pay to read the quest text!)
• A'dal is the big glowing naaru in the middle of the Terrace of Light. Hand in your quest to him to earn some of the quickest gold you've earned on a World of Warcraft quest.

Back to Netherstorm

• A'dal reveals that the Crystal you just delivered was the container for a message, and that message explains the location of the two shards of the Key to the Arcatraz. Take A'dal's quest How to Break Into the Arcatraz ^AHT, and you're ready to go and collect them.
• Each shard is hidden in a different wing of Tempest Keep, so you'll need to head back to Netherstorm to collect them. The wings involved are five-man instances, and remember you'll need a flying mount to get to either of them.
• The Top Shard of the Arcatraz Key ^AHT is in the Botanica ^AHW wing of the Keep. To get it, you'll need to kill an boss named Warp Splinter ^AHTW. This ancient is the main boss of the instance.
• The Bottom Shard of the Arcatraz Key ^AHT is in the Mechanar ^AHTW wing. Its also held by the main boss of the instance, in this case Kael'thas' right-hand elf, Pathaleon the Calculator ^AHTW.
• Once you've completed both these wings and downed the main bosses, you should have both the shards of the key. Return to A'dal, and he'll recombine them into the Key to the Arcatraz ^AHT for you.
• A'dal's questline continues with Harbinger of Doom ^HT, which will take you back to Tempest Keep and into the Arcatraz itself. So, now's your chance to make good use your new key.
