Serpentshrine Cavern

Serpentshrine Cavern is the den of Lady Vashj ^W, one of Illidan's ^W lieutenants in Outland, and holder of one of the Vials of Eternity ^AHT. Her cavern beneath Coilfang Reservoir is part of the end-game content of the Burning Crusade, and one one of the most difficult areas to access in the game.

Unlike most of the dungeons in Outland, access to Serpentshrine Cavern doesn't involve an actual key, but an attunement quest like the Molten Core ^AHTW or Blackwing Lair ^AHTW.

• The starting quest in this sequence is available from the Slave Pens ^AHTW, but only in Heroic mode. This means that all five party members must have the Reservoir Key to even start the chain.
• Just past the first boss in the Slave Pens, Mennu the Betrayer ^AHTW, look for a prisoner named Skar'this the Heretic ^AHT. Skar'this gives the quest The Cudgel of Kar'desh ^AHT, which is the starting point of the attunement quest line. It involves retrieving two items, each of which is held by a powerful raid boss.
• The first item, the Earthen Signet ^AHT, is in the clutches of Gruul the Dragonkiller ^AHTW. Naturally enough, he's found in Gruul's Lair ^AHTW in the Blade's Edge Mountains, a 25-man raid instance.
• The second item is the Blazing Signet ^AHT, which is in the hands (or claws) of Nightbane ^AHTW, one of the hardest bosses in Karazhan ^AHTW. Remember you'll need a Master's Key to enter the Karazhan instance.
• Once both the Signets have been recovered, return to Skar'this in the Slave Pens (it's unclear whether the instance needs to be in Heroic mode to complete the quest). Hand them over, and he will cast the Mark of Vashj on you, enabling you to enter Serpentshrine Cavern and slay Lady Vashj herself.
