Key Quest Guide

The Shattered Halls

The Shattered Halls is the third and hardest of the instances in Hellfire Citadel. The key quest line starts in Shadowmoon Valley, which gives you some idea how much tougher this dungeon is compared to the others in the Citadel.

Like most other normal mode keys, only one member of a party needs to be carrying a Shattered Halls Key AHTW to gain entrance into the instance. Unlike the other normal mode keys, you don't need to visit any instances to get hold of the key, but you'll still need the help of a group at one stage in the process.

  • Go to Shadowmoon Valley and find an orc named Smith Gorlunk on the Ata'mal Terrace W of the Black Temple (you'll find him working at his forge - remember you can type '/target smith' to target him once you're in the general vicinity). Smith Gorlunk will drop a Primed Key Mold AHT, which starts the questline you need. This mob is only level 69 non-elite, and so is quite soloable - no need for that group yet.
  • The quest you get from the item is Entry Into the Citadel AHTW, which will take you to Force Commander Danath Trollbane AHTW, upstairs in the keep at Honor Hold. He'll send you along to see Dumphry AHT (the guy in the tower outside the hold who gave you those salvage quests when you were level 60). Still no need for that party we mentioned.
  • Dumphry needs some parts to make the key: 4 Fel Iron Bars AHTW, 2 Arcane Dust AHTW and 4 Motes of Fire AHTW. You can get these from the Auction House, or possibly from generous fellow guildies. No need for a party here, either.
  • To forge the new key, Dumphry wants you to plunge it into a fel fire core. To do that, you'll have to locate a Fel Reaver and destroy it: the core is its power source. This is the part where a group will come in handy.
  • Once you've downed the Fel Reaver and returned to Dumphry at Honor Hold, the Shattered Halls Key will be yours.
