This page has a selection of useful tips and suggestions to help you to get started, and to get the most out of the guild.
Setting Up Your Forum Account
Because we're split across several servers and games, you'll find a lot of communication goes through our Website forums. That's where you need to be to see the latest guild news, plan a raid, or just generally get in touch with other members.
Please note that the forums are intended for the private use of Generations members. If you haven't yet been confirmed as a member, please don't try to register there.
If you are a member, though, you should register to use the service by going to the Forums page and clicking the 'Register' link at the top of the page. Once that's done (your account is created immediately) you'll need to request access to the main forums. Just go to the forums and post a request in the public Access Requests forum, and we'll get that organised for you. Getting authorised rarely takes more than twenty-four hours, and usually rather quicker than that.
A Note on Guild Ranks
When you first join us, you'll have the guild rank of Initiate. That's a temporary arrangement for a couple of days - once a week, all new initiates are raised to the rank of Member. There are periodic promotions to higher guild ranks, too - you can find out all about those on the forums.
Guild Chat
As you'll soon find out online, we're pretty free and easy in the Guild Chat channel. Pretty much anything goes, though we do ask you show ordinary politeness and respect to other members, and to be sure you use suitable language.
Collectively, we have a fair amount of game experience, so if you have any in-game questions (for instance, if you're stuck with a quest) feel free to ask for help. You'll often find people are ready to actively join in with quests, raids and so on, too. Having said that, it's sometimes hard to organise this kind of thing on the spur of the moment - if you have a really significant quest to complete (you need to visit an instance, say) it's usually a better idea to organise things ahead of time through the guild forums.
The only thing we really ask you not to do in guild chat is sell items. On the other hand, you're free to offer loot for free to other members who can use it - especially plans and schematics. You'll often see loot items offered like this (and you're welcome to ask for any you can use, of course). If you'd rather keep and sell your loot instead, no-one will complain - we just ask that you use the normal in-game methods, rather than using guild chat.
Exactly what's acceptable in guild chat tends to vary from game to game and server to server. For example, on the WoW Stormrage server, we ask that users don't publish the results of damage meters, just to help avoid unhealthy competition. If you're in any doubt about what's appropriate, just ask for advice online.
Looting
The etiquette of group looting is a complicated subject, and you'll find plenty about it in the forums.
At least in WoW, though, we tend to follow a couple of basic rules:
- For 'Bind on Equip' items, feel free to roll for anything at all. If another member should happen to win something you really need, they'll usually be happy to hand it over, but generally 'Bind on Equip' loot is a free-for-all.
- More valuable loot is normally 'Bind on Pickup', which means it can't be transferred to another player once looted. To make sure these always go to the most suitable players, we always 'pass' on the loot rolls for these - then we can work out where they need to go.
In formal raids on the Stormrage WoW server, we use a DKP system to allocated loot. The DKP rules are maintained on our forums, and you'll find the details of how the system works here.
TeamSpeak
If you have the right equipment, you'll be happy to hear we have a TeamSpeak server running 24-7. You can download TeamSpeak free from www.goteamspeak.com. You'll find all the information you need to get connected in the guild forums.
On the Stormrage EU WoW server we have a few further add-on requirements for raiding (as well as a few other suggestions to help improve your experience). You'll find an up-to-date list of these add-ons on our forum. Once your forum account is active, you'll be able to see the list here.
That's about all you need to know to get started. If you have any questions not answered here, it's easy to find the answers. Just ask on the forums, or in guild chat, and you'll usually find someone who can help.
